Plant remedies for headaches

With the garden expo this month I thought it would be appropriate to look at some remedies which are made from plants. Homeopathic plant remedies can be particularly effective at treating headaches. Most patients that visit me with recurring headaches have had them thoroughly investigated and have tried various medications with minimal success. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, are used to treat headaches but long term use of some of these drugs may result in gastric ulcers or bleeding. The homeopathic plant remedy called Iris versicolor can be used for migraine headaches if a person also suffers from nausea or vomiting and needs to lie down in a dark room to recover. However if you feel hot and your temples or forehead is throbbing Belladonna can often bring speedy relief. Bryonia is another plant remedy which is useful for headaches that feel as though your head is going to burst and you must sit very still because any movement makes it worse. Recurring headaches can often be caused by emotional issues such as stress or anxiety, and if a family history of headaches exists this will also need to be taken into consideration. The remedies mentioned above are effective at treating acute headaches but a more a lasting cure can be obtained with the use of a powerful deep acting remedy which has been tailored to the individual. A holistic treatment plan which takes all of the patient’s issues into consideration will be the most effective.
